I agree with you, making a documentary film is a major undertaking. We just finished a documentary film about a World War II Marine Aviation Squadron and all that they went through. (http://www.bluedevilsmovie.com) It is a first person account from…
I found my passion for production during a winter camping trip with Nathan Greene in Feb. 2000. I've always enjoyed photography but always felt something was missing. I found it in video that winter and that is motion.
In 2005 I began a journey in directing a documentary film that has just finished this past Dec. 2008. It's entitled "Blue Devils, Marine Aviation Squadron VMF-451". Jay Wintermeyer here on AF.com was my editor for the project. He did an awesome job translating my vision for the documentary film into a reality. The film has been shown in two film festivals and the audience's responses have been very positive so far. You can find out more information about Blue Devils at www.bluedevilsmovie.com or on FaceBook.
Since completing Blue Devils I've been meeting other film makers from around Michigan. I'm discovering that connecting with other filmmakers is a huge part of success. Each of us has knowledge but when we share with each other things can happen.
