Adventist Filmmaker

I was listening to the radio station K-love this morning and I heard their christian film critic commenting on the nominated movies. He seemed highly discontented with their choices (there will be blood, and atonement), because one of the movies is about a serial killer getting away with murder and the other about lustfilled love. Why should he care the Oscars belong to the world and as "christians" we are suppose to be a peculiar people. A peculiar person does not care to think or even talk about the Oscars, we have more pressing matters on our hands like getting the gospel of Christ out into the world. Yes, I know that we are all filmmakers and lovers of film but come on we already know what the truly closed-minded people will think of our movies. We knew the job was dangerous when we took it, the masses will not appreciate our work, but there will be those who are open to what God has us express. Now I don't know about you but that is who I am striving to impress GOD and the TRULY open-minded. Besides K-love does not even aknowlege that we are christians. So you ask the question "will the real peculiar people please stand up?"

Well,, its OK to lament the fact that the OSCAR Comm. are so un-concerned about what is not only "good taste", but actually uplifts humanity to a higher sphere of existence, instead of degrading humanity.
Unfortunately most film makers, especially the big ones, are persons who have had the "image of God" pretty blurred in themselves, and only see ego, vanity, praise of men, and money, as being important.
There is no real love for their fellow humans, just the supreme self , which for them is god.
Its a sad situation, but remember we are called by Christ to be amongst these people as examples of what it is like to be having the "image of Jesus" or a shift in our perceptions of life, and how we see others, and estem them, being restored within us.
I like this,

"The world today is in crying need of a revelation of Christ Jesus in the person of His saints. God desires that His people shall stand before the world a holy people. Why?--because there is a world to be saved by the light of gospel truth; and as the message of truth that is to call men out of darkness into God's marvelous light is given by the church, the lives of its memberrs, sanctified by the Spirit of truth, are to bear witness to the verity of the messages proclaimed......They ae to reveal to every struggling soul in the world what it means "to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly" with their God."

What we do with our creative art, and as our fellow film makers in the world see what makes us tick, and the results, it will have a telling influence, believe me!

As for the closed minded not caring for your films, well, I think Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe said it well,

“Let us not dream that reason can ever be popular.
Passions, emotions, may be made popular, but reason remains ever the property of the few”
